How Not to Get Bored November 20, 2009

Is there a way not to get bored while swimming laps? I don’t know, if you’re just doing it to keep in shape. But if you like swimming like I do, then its your own entertainment.

I have to say, what gets me through those long hard sets is the thought that i will get to talk to my friends at the end. Sad, but true.

Another way to keep yourself boring is to think about how good you will feel if you do 110 laps instead of 100, then 120 laps instead of 110. Take it slow in little bits of time.

Some advice: If you have a choice, switch up your stroke a lot. It will keep it more interesting.

Hope your not bored!

Winter Swim: An Average Practice November 20, 2009

Winter Swim is very different, because there is a different coach. Unlike my old one, he prefers long sets. Of course, since my old coach didn’t like long sets, I am really bad at them. Luckily my new coach, Brian, said we were going to go easy to get back in shape, for the first week or so. Little did I realize what “easy” is now.

What did we do? Good question. It is fading in my memory because it was so hard.

We had a long warm up, then a 500 easy kick. Next we swam freestyle for a while, doing a 50 on the minute, 100 on the 2:00, 200 on the 4:00, 300 on the 6:00, and so on, all the way to 500 on the 10:00. It was all progressive, or build up, which was not that amazing, but luckily it was a long interval, with plenty of rest.

The next set was not so easy. 75s on the 1:45. In IM order. the easiest one for me was free fly back. The one without breaststroke. Ew. I hate breaststroke.

Getting Out if Shape: Part 2 November 18, 2009

Ok. Winter Swim has finally started. But what did i do to keep in shape? Well, not much. But a few things that i DID do are simple everyday things that could help you too.

The first thing I did was go running. It sounds dumb and painful, but once you get into it, its really not that bad. Of course, when your out of shape because you haven’t been swimming for a while, even 3 miles leaves you sore the next day.

The next thing is take the stairs. When i went to visit my grandma in her apartment, the elevator was tempting. But i took the stairs instead. It can really gelp, especially when you have stairs in your house.

Next: walk. Walking is great for you. You can get out and enjoy the fresh air and feel great without getting sore. You can also get errands done if you have any stores near your house. Even though swim has started again, i am walking home with a friend today and i can’t wait.

Any more ideas for getting in shape?

Getting Out of Shape November 4, 2009

Hey everyone, sorry about the long break, I just had no time to write. Gomy g is sitting next to me. Your can leave a comment saying hi to him, or you can check out his blog at http://supaflyjams.wordpress.com Its pretty jammin.

Anyway, fall swim ended last Wednesday. Unfortuately, winter swim does not start for another two weeks. So what am I going to do to keep in shape? As you may or may not know, when swimming Monday, Wednesday and Friday, you get out of shape over the weekend. So I need some ideas for how to keep in shape for 2 whole weeks, after not swimming for a week already.

I thought about it for a while, and came up with a few ideas, coming next time!!

In the meantime, please comment on any ideas you have for staying in shape when sports take a break!

Thanks!
